The streets of Sampedrana witnessed the effort, journey and sweat of the athletes who participated in the third and last bootcamp prior to the 47th edition of the LA PRENSA newspaper marathon.
Effort and discipline showed the 500 participants from 5 in the morning where the starting point was in the parking lot of the Colonial supermarket on the ring road.
The night was ending and the sun was approaching the horizon when the runners began the free practice.
Many decided to do the 10.5 kilometer route and others to venture into the 5 km. The demanding 21 km is the great challenge for Hondurans in the men’s category because no one has conquered it, only foreign athletes.
Mario Valladares, professional trainer and runner, was in charge of giving the talks and advice to the participants.
The main one was to keep a calm training rhythm without reaching extreme fatigue for the short time left for the competition.
And it is the one that next Sunday, June 18, will begin the 47th edition of the LA PRENSA Diary Marathon with more than 6,000 participants in the 16 categories established in its three routes: 5 km, 10.5 km and 21 km.
Everything will start at 5:00 am, the beginning and the goal is the parking lot of the Los Andes Police Station. Previously there will be a warm-up and thanks from the organization.
47TH EDITION OF THE MARATHON OF DIARIO LA PRENSA
The LA PRENSA Newspaper Marathon takes place every year in June and is a competition that became international in 1978. Since then, not a single Honduran has been able to win it. And, since 2008, it has been conquered only by African athletes.
After the event there will be awards for the first three places in each category. Sponsors have many surprises in store with their activations.
