Canadian players Mike Weir, Corey Conners and Hadwin were among those who ran onto the green to congratulate him – only for Hadwin’s celebration to be cut short.

As fans flocked to the green, Hadwin — who, like Taylor, grew up in Abbotsford, British Columbia — was razed to the ground by a security guard amidst the chaos.

He said he had so much adrenaline that the tackle didn’t faze him.

“It’s incredible. I mean, what do you think of one of the greatest moments in Canadian golf history?” said Hadwin. “I think we all predicted this would happen.

“I’m not sure if any of us predicted a 72-foot eagle putt… to pull it off, but what a way to go.”

“Out of the corner of my eye I saw he got a nice tackle there,” Taylor later told reporters. ‘I hope he’s okay. He was standing up when I saw him later, so I hope he doesn’t wake up tomorrow morning with broken ribs or anything.”

Hadwin’s wife Jessica later confirmed in a follow-up tweet that he was indeed fine.

“I am thrilled to report that @ahadwingolf is still in the land of the living and in true Canadian form apologized to the security guard for being dealt with,” she wrote.

Tournament director Bryan Crawford told CNN that the security guard did not “immediately recognize” Hadwin in the chaotic scene.

“The security guard did his job and acted in the moment amid a flurry of excitement and revelry on the green after one of the most iconic moments in Canadian sport,” Taylor said.

“We are pleased with how both sides quickly cleared up the misunderstanding and embraced the moment.”

Hadwin certainly seems to have embraced the moment, judging by his new profile picture on Twitter with a screenshot of the takedown.

Hadwin’s run came after a historic victory for Canadian golf. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, 35-year-old Taylor won for the third time on the PGA Tour.

He shot 75 in Thursday’s opening round, but rallied with a 67 on Friday to make the cut, then shot 63 on Saturday to start the final round three shots behind leader CT Pan.

“I was on the 7th hole, I remember the first day, my 16th hole, with 10 feet for par and made that. And made a birdie of 8 and parred the last to be a little bit in sight,” said Taylor. “So to stand there and then sit here today is pretty remarkable, to be honest.”

Taylor is the fourth Canadian to win on tour this season, joining Conners, Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Svensson.
