John Amos speaks out about his health after claims he was admitted to an intensive care unit and that his life was “hanging by a thread”.
“To all my fans, I want you to know that I’m fine,” Amos said in a statement from his representative to Fox News Digital on Tuesday.
“I’m not in ICU and I’ve never fought for my life.”
Amos’ daughter, Shannon, initially said her 83-year-old father was a victim of “elder abuse” and “financial exploitation” in a lengthy Instagram post shared last week.

Colorado officials confirmed with Fox News Digital that the “Good Times” actor “could be the victim of a crime.”
“We take allegations of crime very seriously,” the Custer County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital. “We can confirm that an allegation has been made to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office that Mr. Amos could be the victim of a felony.”

They added, “We are thoroughly investigating that allegation and have consulted with our partners at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Department of Human Services. We have also been in touch with Mr. Amos and his attorney.”
After Shannon posted that her father was hospitalized in May in “intense pain” — and that the “ICU revealed his life was hanging by a thread” — she solicited contributions in a crowdsourcing campaign, which would help covering safe housing, medical care and legal costs to “hold the perpetrator(s) accountable”.
Funds would be forwarded to the “Amos Care Fund, LLC” according to the GoFundMe.

In his statement on Tuesday, the “Coming to America” star said, “First, I want the GoFundMe campaign about me to end immediately and the money then returned to those who made donations.”
Amos added, “My son and I will reveal more information in due course.”
Colorado officials have not provided additional details or comments about the ongoing criminal investigation.
“Mr. Amos has been a beloved member of our community for many years. He has also been a staunch supporter of our community and this sheriff’s office,” the release read.

“While Colorado Revised Statutes do not have a specific charge titled ‘elder abuse,’ there are other underlying crimes in Colorado that are commonly committed.”

Criminal negligence, assault, robbery, robbery, caretaker neglect, assault, and exploitation were all cited as examples of crimes.
“In addition, there is an increased sentence for certain crimes against victims aged 70 or older,” the statement said. “We would like to send Mr. Amos our best wishes and hope he recovers soon.”
Amos played James Evans Sr. in “Good Times” and also had regular roles on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Hunter,” “The West Wing,” and “Men in Trees.”
