Türkiye president promises to introduce new ‘civilian’

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged on Wednesday to introduce a new “civilian” constitution.

Speaking after the Council of Ministers meeting, which lasted more than eight hours in the capital Ankara, Erdogan said, “We will work together to bring a civilian constitution to Turkey.”

“We want to continue our journey in the second century of our republic with the guidance of a civil, libertarian and inclusive constitution that will be embraced by all segments.” Junta after the 1980 coup.

Also praising the presidential system, Erdoğan said, “Our nation voluntarily rejected the proposals to return to the old system in the 14 and 28 May elections. The parliamentary system discussions were closed indefinitely.”

Turkey adopted the presidential administration system as a result of the referendum in 2017 and put it into practice a year later.

Turkish officials praised the benefits of the new system, saying it eliminates inefficiencies and allows administration to run more smoothly.

TRNC Azerbaijan tour

Erdogan said that after his re-election on May 28, he made his first overseas visits to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Azerbaijan.

We will continue to fight shoulder to shoulder with the Turkish Cypriots, who are an integral part of the Turkish nation. We will never allow the rights of neither our country nor the TRNC to be usurped.”

Returning to Azerbaijan, Erdogan said that during his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, they took many decisions to improve bilateral relations.

“We have set a common goal to increase the trade volume to $15 billion,” he said.

Erdogan said that priority was given to the establishment of a Türkiye-Azerbaijan university.

We emphasized our support for the ongoing normalization process with Armenia,” he said.
