140 Honduran municipalities on red alert due to drought

The Secretary of State in the National Risk and Contingency Management Offices raised this Thursday to the red alert 140 of the 298 municipalities that the country has due to the droughts that the El Niño phenomenon can cause.

In Choluteca, Valle, El Paraíso, Francisco Morazán, Comayagua, La Paz, Intibucá, Lempira, Yoro and the north of Olancho, most of the municipalities are on red alert.

Copeco also established a yellow alert for 101 municipalities in Olancho, Colón, Atlántida, Islas de la Bahía, Santa Bárbara and Lempira.

And a green alert was decreed in 57 municipalities in the departments of Gracias a Dios, Cortés and Ocotepeque.

The municipalities on red alert are: Santa Fe, Santa Rosa de Aguán, Sonaguera, Tocoa and Bonito Oriental in the department of Colón.

In Yoro Yorito, Victoria, Sulaco, Santa Rita, Olanchito, Morazán, Jocón, Arenal, El Negrito, El Progreso, and Yoro are on red alert.
