A robber in England was sentenced this week to three years in prison for attempted robbery, but it was only thanks to his victim’s quick thinking that he ended up in police custody in the first place.
“It wasn’t the hardest arrest we’ve ever made. To be honest, it was an open and closed case,” Durham Constabulary Detective Paul Mawson told The Northern Echo.
Martin Trimble, 30, walked into a convenience store in Durham City last month with a knife.
He grabbed a four-pack of beer and used his knife to threaten the shop owner. Instead of letting Trimble walk away, the store owner ran out and closed the door, holding it tight and locking his thief in.

But the shutter was too low and Trimble found himself pinned to the ground – his torso out and open to the street.
Realizing he had been beaten, Trimble broke open one of the beers he was trying to steal and drank it while waiting for the police to take him away.
