More than a dozen bilateral agreements were signed between Uzbekistan and Iran, whose President is in Tehran on an official visit.
“The signing ceremony of bilateral documents took place at the end of the high-level talks … Also, during the visit, 15 documents were adopted at the level of governments, ministries and regions,” the statement said late on Sunday. in the office of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, invited by his counterpart Ebrahim Raisi.
In the statement, it was stated that Mirziyoyev and Raisi signed a joint statement on strengthening bilateral cooperation, and also stated that the documents were accepted at the government, ministry and regional level.
It also said the agreements focused on greater cooperation in preferential trade, technology and innovation, and memorandums were adopted “in the area of creating joint free economic zones, pharmaceuticals, transport and transit”.
Joint measures plan in the field of sports, memorandum of understanding in the field of dispute resolution and arbitration, optional cooperation agreement in the field of reinsurance and other documents were also signed.
The signing of the agreements followed narrow and extended talks between Mirziyoyev and Raisi at the Saadabad Complex in Tehran, where trade, economic and investment cooperation were high on the agenda.
“The Presidents discussed opportunities to increase bilateral trade volume and coordinate cooperation in the field of transport and logistics,” the Uzbek presidency said in a previous statement.
The implementation of joint energy and technology investment projects was also discussed, in addition to expanded cooperation in the fields of agriculture, science, innovation, culture, international terrorism, drug trafficking, cyber terrorism and human trafficking.
“The heads of state agreed to continue the dialogue on strengthening peace and stability in Afghanistan and promoting the socio-economic reconstruction of the neighboring country,” the statement said.
Mirziyoyev then met with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
