Tropical storm Brett is the second formed this season in the Atlantic basin area. According to the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC), this phenomenon will strengthen as it moves west and could end up as a hurricane within a couple of days when it is near the Lesser Antilles.

However, the NHC has not issued alerts about the possible climatic effects of the storm, but it did recommend that the inhabitants of the islands in the Caribbean be vigilant before its advance.

It should be noted that Tropical Storm Brett started in West Africa, and has a 70 percent chance of becoming a cyclone in the next 48 hours.

In this sense, Brett reached the category of tropical storm on Monday, June 19. According to the NHC, the storm is about 1,130 miles (1,815 km) east of the southern Windward Islands and is moving at 17 miles per hour (28 km/h) in a westerly direction.

In addition, forecasters have predicted that Brett will approach the Lesser Antilles later this week, but before that it will become the first hurricane of 2023. So far, the tropical storm’s winds extend up to 45 miles (75 kilometers). from the center.

The NHC also reported the emergence of a tropical wave located several hundred miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, Africa. “Environmental conditions appear conducive for further development of this system and a tropical depression will likely form over the next few days as the system slowly moves west across the tropical Atlantic,” they said.
