The Miraflores Museum was the scene where this Tuesday, June 20, the children and young leaders, members of the Children’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal, of the Children’s Elections 2023, announced at a press conference the preparation that the children’s electoral event has entailed, which will be held on June 25, 2023.
It was highlighted that the children’s electoral event is a “great family civic party” because Guatemalan children will be able to vote in the authorized voting centers and they will be able to do so accompanied by their parents, relatives and/or guardians.
More than 210,000 children have been registered to participate in the 2023 elections and symbolically elect their representatives.
More than 85,000 minors registered in person at the child registration centers located in the branches of the companies that support the program and more than 125,000 registered online through the virtual platform.
To exercise their civic participation responsibly, the program has training modules on its virtual platform, with which 105,000 girls and boys have been trained.
Julio René Ramírez, president of the Children’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal, indicated: “It is important to participate because we want children to be involved in the electoral process, we want to train them democratically so that, when they are of legal age, they know the process, that they have the basis of how is the registration and voting, and that they know what it is like to find out to select who will govern us for four years ”.
He added: “We want all boys and girls to participate without any exception, we all have the right to choose and be elected as Guatemalans, on June 25 the ballots will also be available in the Braille system.”
He asked parents for their collaboration for face-to-face or virtual registration, as well as taking their children to the voting centers this Sunday.
More than 2,800 boys, girls and young people make up the Children’s Vote Receiving Boards, actively participating in the process to serve the child voting population. These boards are trained and sworn in to perform their function as children’s electoral bodies.
In addition, 15 girls and boys from educational centers of the Pro-Blind and Deaf Committee were sworn in to integrate the vote-receiving boards, which will also have ballots in the Braille system.
