Hunter Biden was among the guests invited to a state dinner at the White House for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his wife on Thursday evening.
The invitation comes just two days after the 53-year-old’s consent to plead guilty to two misdemeanors of willful failure to pay federal income taxes went public.
“Despite owing more than $100,000 in federal income tax each year, he has not paid the income tax due for either year,” U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, David C. Weiss, said Tuesday.
Hunter Biden will also enter into a preliminary diversion agreement with respect to a separate charge of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

When asked about his son by a reporter on Tuesday, President Biden said, “I am very proud of my son.” He also gave a thumbs up after a reporter asked a similar question on Thursday.
The White House responded to the allegations Tuesday morning.
“The president and first lady love and support their son as he rebuilds his life,” White House spokesman Ian Sams said in a statement. “We will have no further comment.”
The president’s brother James Biden, who has been under investigation by Republicans for dealings with foreign family businesses, was also invited to dinner with about 400 guests on Thursday.

Hunter Biden’s plea deal has drawn criticism from Republicans, some of whom have suggested he gets a “sweetie” deal because he is the president’s son.
“It is no coincidence that less than a week after President Trump was indicted by the DOJ, Hunter Biden is pleading guilty to a love affair without jail time,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told Fox News Digital in a statement. . “The DOJ is going for the low-hanging fruit by charging Hunter Biden with a gun crime and two tax violations, after years of a slow-moving investigation.”
