The Sterling One Foundation is pleased to announce that it will host the second edition of the Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) between August 10-11, 2023 in Lagos, Nigeria, along with business and development partners.
Following the successful implementation of some of the solutions put forward during the inaugural edition to address key African challenges, the Foundation, together with its partners, is pleased to once again enlist African leaders and development experts in government, public, private and civil society. sectors to share progress insights and knowledge and further stimulate impact investments for more sustainable solutions.
Launched in 2022, the Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) represents a direct action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Africa, through the effective collaboration of all key players within the African development ecosystem to find market-driven solutions for the growth of the continent, favorable policies that support them and investments that help them scale. The Summit had over 3,000 registrants from 66 countries and had 13 entrepreneurs from 4 African countries pitching in the Deal Room.
During his keynote address at the first edition of the summit, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Matthias Schmale, stressed the need for Africa to eagerly pay more attention to the most vulnerable in society, as they most affected by rising unemployment, rising inflation, climate change and insufficient access to quality education and health services.
These concerns and similar concerns expressed by key experts and opinion leaders present at the inaugural summit led to the choice of a central theme for this year’s edition, “Global Vision, Local Action: Repositioning the African development ecosystem for sustainable outcomes”, which focuses on ways to improve on what African innovators are already doing, and find ways to make impact investing on the continent more catalytic and scalable.
Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of the Sterling One Foundation, spoke about the importance of the theme, explaining that progress on the SDGs can only be made if partnerships are prioritized and built in a way that focuses on the long term and seeks to remove various bottlenecks. to real progress. “It is easier to solve issues such as unstructured governance for SDGs, lack of access to reliable data, transparency and accountability issues when development partnerships are built across the board, with all players involved and focused on the same goal. This is what we hope to achieve at the end of the summit,” she added.
Like last year, ASIS 2023 will be hosted as a hybrid event with keynote addresses, panel talks, exhibitions and a Deal Room for impact-driven entrepreneurs operating across Africa. In addition, the summit will feature workshops for civil society organisations, an environmental, social and governance (ESG) roundtable, several sessions between private sector leaders and other players, and several other side events.
