Strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast for parts of the upper Midwest and Ohio Valley.

Related severe weather hazards include large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes, and heavy rains that can carry the risk of flooding.
This region is also experiencing very poor air quality from wildfire smoke streaming in from Canada, which will spread to the northeast later on Wednesday and Thursday.

In addition, weather warnings and extreme heat warnings are in place for the Southwest, across the Southern Plains and across the Gulf Coast states.
Temperatures will rise to record levels with dangerous humidity.
