A 78-year-old man was shot to death while defending his son, when he was assaulted by two criminals at the entrance to his house in the Buenos Aires city of Mar del Plata.
The victim was identified by the Police as Daniel Marcel (78), father of journalist Marcelo Marcel from Mar del Plata.
The event occurred this Friday night, after 8:00 p.m., at an address located in the Gabito Bannat y San Lorenzo area, in the Las Lilas neighborhood of Mar del Plata, when Marcelo was preparing to enter the garage of the house with his vehicle. and while trying to open the entrance gate, he was approached by two criminals -one of them armed- for the purpose of robbery.
Amid shouts and threats from the assailants, who managed to take his wallet, the journalist got into a struggle with the strangers, who intended to enter the house. During those struggles, the one who was armed would have come to trigger, but the shot did not go off despite the fact that the thief activated his weapon.
Marcelo Marcel is one of the most popular journalists in Mar del Plata. He works at Radio Miter in that city.
Faced with this situation, the journalist’s father -who was on the top floor of the house- went down and tried to defend his son, and in those circumstances he was shot and left lying on the floor, while the assailants escaped.
The victim was urgently transferred by ambulance to the Interzonal Hospital in Mar del Plata, where he was admitted to the shock room unconscious with a gunshot wound that entered his left arm and exited through his skull.
Despite the efforts of the medical professionals at the hospital, his death was confirmed shortly after.
The investigations analyze at this time the images of the security cameras installed in the area in an attempt to identify and locate the criminals.
The staff of the 12th police station is involved in the investigation. and the Mar del Plata prosecutor on duty, Romina Diaz.
The body of forensic experts worked mainly on the sidewalk of the house, the central scene of the deadly attack. On the other hand, both the jurisdiction police station and the Mar del Plata DDI deployed their resources to determine the escape destination and the identity of the murderers.
After spreading the news about the death of the journalist’s father, various personalities from public life in Mar del Plata expressed their condolences on social networks. One of them was the former mayor of the city Gustavo Pulti.
The Secretary of Knowledge Economy and from Mar del Plata, Juan Manuel Cheppi, expressed his solidarity with the family. “I want to send my condolences to Marcelo Marcel who today lost his father in a terrible act of insecurity. I greet his entire family at this painful moment, ”he expressed on his Twitter account.
Marcelo Marcel is a recognized figure in journalism from Mar del Plata, where he has practiced his profession for about 30 years. After going through several local media such as El Atlántico or Channel 10 television, he currently works for the news portal El Marplatense and can be heard daily on Radio Miter Mar del Plata.
