Chicago police said two dead babies were found in a bathroom at a daycare center

Two newborn babies were found dead at a Chicago daycare center on Thursday, police said, who were notified after a cleaning crew found the babies in a bathroom at the facility.

Chicago police said they responded to a daycare center in the 400 block of East Ontario, Streeterville, at about 6:59 p.m., where they found the newborns unconscious in a garbage bag.

“Chicago police are conducting a death investigation after two newborn girls were found dead in the bathroom of a daycare center in Streeterville,” police said in a statement Thursday night. “Dispatchers told responding officers the babies were in a garbage bag. The children were not breathing when first responders arrived.”

The girls were then transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

A woman was also found in the facility, who was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for unspecified injuries.

“A medical emergency occurred tonight involving a daycare worker at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s on-campus daycare,” a spokesperson for Northwestern Medicine told me. FOS 32.

The hospital said it was cooperating with the ongoing police investigation into the deaths.

“We are cooperating with CPD regarding this incident and are unable to comment further at this time,” the spokesperson added.

As the investigation continues, police say no suspects have been arrested.

“Area Three detectives are conducting the investigation, which was initially classified as a danger to the life or health of children,” police said.

They have released information about the age or race of the children.
