The coordinator of the National initiative for green and smart projects in Egypt Hesham Badr met with the UN Women’s Representative in EgyptChristine Arab, to discuss the executive position of the ongoing collaboration between the initiative and the agency and other aspects of collaboration.

This follows the results of the conference held late last month by the initiative to launch a partnership for cooperation with the United Nations in Egypt and its affiliated organizations.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Planning on Saturday, Badr said the second phase of the initiative aims to encourage more groups to come up with innovative environmental solutions, and that there is a special interest in encouraging more women to participate in climate action.

The initiative assigned a category to projects related to women, he explained, with the aim of empowering women and promoting Egypt’s green economy.

Badr explained that the role of the initiative is to help achieve greater harmony and joint efforts between the different parties involved in women’s empowerment.

This is done through the initiative’s collaboration with UN Women and the presence of the National Council for Women as one of the members of the organizing committee for the initiative, he said.

He also commended UN Women’s technical support in Egypt to the winning projects in the women’s category in the first phase, and discussed extending the scope of this support to qualified projects in the same category.

The talks also covered ways for the UN in Egypt to support the winning projects in the second phase, either by providing technical support or by presenting projects in different forums to facilitate collaboration for them.
