Mother and father of parochial faculty college students in Pennsylvania are suing their public faculty district for allegedly violating their non secular rights by refusing to permit their kids to take part in extracurricular and co-curricular actions.

Mother and father of two parochial faculty college students in Heart County filed a lawsuit July 10 with the help of the Non secular Rights Basis of Pennsylvania and the Thomas Extra Society towards the State Faculty Space College District (SCASD), in keeping with a press launch from the Thomas Extra Society.

Thomas Extra Society particular counsel Thomas Breth stated in a press release to Fox Information Digital that the district’s nondiscrimination coverage permits any pupil within the district — together with constitution faculty college students and homeschoolers — to take part within the education schemes.

Breth stated the varsity district is attempting to justify its actions by claiming that together with parochial college students in such applications and actions would detract from the scholars who frequently attend faculties within the district.

“The board has constantly allowed homeschool college students and people attending constitution faculties to take part within the district’s greater than 100 extracurricular actions and courses, together with athletic groups and superior programs,” Breth wrote.

“The varsity district has denied those self same alternatives to college students who attend non secular faculties primarily based solely on their non secular identification. That forces parochial college students to decide on between their non secular beliefs and the proper to take part in extracurricular actions and superior courses,” added he to it.

Breth stated related circumstances have been introduced earlier than the US Supreme Court docket, which has dominated towards denying companies to college students primarily based on non secular perception.
