Lola, a Customs dog, detected a man at the Salta border who was trying to enter the money hidden among his clothes.
Lola, a customs dog to work on the border, managed to detect a man who was trying to enter almost 30,000 dollars irregularly from Bolivia, in a routine operation on the northern border with Salta.
It happened at the Salvador Mazza – Yacuiba International Border Crossing, which connects Argentina with Bolivia. There arrived a car with several tourists, who were trying to enter the country. The customs staff asked them if they had anything to declare and they said no.
After asking them for the corresponding documentation, the Customs agents began to inspect the vehicle. At that moment, during the baggage inspection, the dog Lola exhibited a behavior compatible with the presence of drugs and/or currency.
Upon seeing the behavior of the animal, the customs agents decided to open the piece that marked the dog to examine it exhaustively, a rigid pink suitcase. Indeed, concealed among shoes and clothing, they identified no less than USD 28,200 and $51,500 in the suitcase of a Bolivian man, who had forgotten to declare.
“The regulations establish that, if values equivalent to 10,000 dollars or more are introduced into Argentine territory, travelers must declare it before the customs service at the time of entering the country. In this framework, the actions of the man in question is an infraction contemplated both in article 978 of the Customs Code and in General Resolution 2704/09 AFIP,” Customs said in a statement.
As they explained to Clarín, the Customs agents drew up the corresponding records and seized the money for violation of the baggage regime.
Lola, the dog who found the dollars, trained at the canine training center that Customs recently created in the city of Salta, where K-9 units are preparing to reinforce control on the country’s northern border.
