(Reuters) – Police in Ohio, according to officials, released a fang on a black man who stepped out of his vehicle with his hands raised after a traffic stop earlier this month.

The incident occurred on July 4 after law enforcement engaged in the lengthy pursuit of a semi-trailer driven by 23-year-old Jadarrius Rose. The vehicle was missing a mud flap and had not stopped for an inspection, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) report.

It came to a stop on a state highway about 40 miles south of Columbus after authorities deployed tire deflation devices known as “stop sticks” for the second time.

In a video captured by the highway patrol, Rose is seen standing in front of the vehicle with hands raised as law enforcement officers order him to the ground.

Moments later, a Circleville Police Department officer released a police dog on Rose, even though a state police officer had told the local officer not to release the dog.

“Don’t let go of the dog – with his hands up,” the trooper can be heard yelling on the video.

The video shows the dog running towards Rose, now on his knees, and video appears to show the dog biting and pulling the driver. Rose screams loudly and can be heard saying, “Please, take it off.”

“While troopers attempted to gain compliance by giving verbal orders to the suspect, Circleville Police Department deployed their dog, resulting in the suspect being bitten by the dog,” the highway patrol said in a statement.

Circleville police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Douglas Debord, Circleville’s director of public safety, told local media that the city is currently reviewing the incident involving the police’s K9 unit.

The highway patrol said the driver was “immediately” given first aid and emergency medical services were contacted. Rose was subsequently taken into custody, OSHP said, adding that the case is still under investigation.
