Lasers are often described as photon emitting beams in a coherent and consistent way via an optical source. They were invented many years ago and were not designed for commercial usage as the technology was in its infancy. Technological advancements in all fields of science have helped in improving the functioning and scope of lasers in recent years. Lasers are now being used in different sectors such as science, industry, medicine, and consumer electronics.
Lasers can be classified according to the type of application for which they are used. Lasers are increasingly being used in different branches of medicine such as dermatology, surgery, plastic surgery, dentistry, ophthalmology, and cosmetic procedures. Lasers used for skin treatments are often referred to as cosmetic lasers that produce an intense beam of light with insignificant dispersion over a short distance.
One of the most common uses of cosmetic lasers can be seen in resurfacing of skin that may have been damaged due to scars and wrinkles. The laser removes thin layers of irregular skin in multiple sessions. Another common use is related to the removal of bodily hair. Tattoos can also be removed using cosmetic lasers in multiple sessions depending on color and depth of pigment used in tattooing.
