An aged Jewish man attending a pro-Israel rally in California has died after a “bodily altercation” with a pro-Palestinian protester, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Division introduced on Monday night.
A verbal altercation broke out between 69-year-old Paul Kessler and an unnamed protester on West Lake and Thousand Oaks Boulevards in Ventura County on Sunday, per a division press launch.
“The Ventura County Sheriff’s Workplace is investigating the incident and has not dominated out the potential for a hate crime,” the division wrote.
Deputies wrote they responded to stories of a battery on the demonstration round 3:20 p.m.
“Witness accounts indicated that Kessler was concerned in a bodily altercation with [pro-Palestinian] counter protesters,” the discharge continued. “Through the altercation, Kessler fell backwards and struck his head on the bottom.”

The Jewish Federation of Larger Los Angeles wrote in a publish on X Monday night that the pro-Palestinian protester threw a megaphone at Kessler.
Kessler’s post-mortem on the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Workplace decided the reason for loss of life to be blunt pressure head harm and the style of loss of life to be murder, per the discharge.

The division is requesting that anybody who witnessed or captured footage of the incident name Detective Stump at (805) 384-4745.
The Jewish Federation of Larger Los Angeles wrote that “violence towards [the Jewish] individuals has no place in civilized society,” and that they may “not tolerate violence towards [the Jewish] group… [and] will do all the things in [their] energy to forestall it.”
“Our hearts are with the household of the sufferer,” the group wrote in a Monday evening publish. “Whereas we look ahead to extra info from our legislation enforcement companions, we remind you that that is the fourth main antisemitic crime dedicated in Los Angeles this 12 months alone.”

Home Judiciary Chairman Rep Jerry Nadler, D-N-Y, shared the publish, writing that “the explosion of antisemitism [had turned] lethal.”
“A 65-year-old Jewish man in LA was killed by a violent anti-Israel protestor [sic],” Nadler, who’s Jewish, wrote. “I strongly encourage individuals of goodwill, individuals in search of peace to separate yourselves from these glorifying & committing violence. Assist calm the tide of hate.”
