Rhode Island transit chief resigns after he is accused in a hit-and-run at a McDonald’s drive-thru

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island Public Transit Authority CEO Scott Avedisian submitted a letter of resignation to Gov. Dan McKee on Thursday simply two weeks after he was accused in a hit-and-run in a McDonald’s drive-thru in Warwick.

The announcement got here the identical day because the RIPTA board of administrators met behind closed doorways to debate Avedisian’s destiny.

In his letter of resignation, Avedisian ticked off a collection of what he portrayed as successes adopted throughout his tenure.

“Regrettably, all of those initiatives are actually being overshadowed by current occasions,” he wrote. “I remorse that the nice work of the staff is being detracted by my actions.”

Avedisian pleaded not responsible final week to a misdemeanor offense of leaving the scene of an accident after police stated he triggered a three-car crash in a Warwick McDonald’s drive-thru and fled the scene.

The previous Warwick mayor started serving as the top of RIPTA in 2018. A successor to the put up has but to be named.
