Vacationers visiting Venice now should pay a charge for day journeys to the well-known metropolis, as a part of an effort to fight overtourism.
The €5 entrance charge (which is simply required to enter the historic heart of Venice) applies on 29 peak days, totally on weekends, as a part of a trial section lasting till July 14.
Day trippers who fail to pay the charge face fines of between €50 (£43) and €300 (£257).
