Minnesota man, 62, on solo tenting journey discovered useless in lake close to overturned canoe

The physique of a 62-year-old Minnesota man was discovered partly submerged within the Boundary Waters Canoe Space within the northern a part of the state on Friday. 

The person, recognized as Mark Ham, was found by canoeists round 5 p.m. who known as 911, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Workplace confirmed to Fox Information Digital. 

Ham, who wasn’t carrying a life jacket, had been canoeing by himself, his household informed legislation enforcement. A life jacket was discovered on the scene.

“With the opening of the Minnesota fishing season this weekend, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Workplace and Rescue Squad want to remind everybody to please put on their life jackets whereas out on the water having fun with their favourite water recreations this summer time,” the division stated in a launch. 

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Workplace and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Workplace are investigating Ham’s demise.

Ham lived in Duluth.

His demise comes every week after a 20-year-old man drowned whereas attempting to save lots of a 23-year-old previous lady whereas they’d been climbing round a lake close to Chattanooga, Tennessee, on April 29.

Drowning is a number one reason behind unintentional demise, and 80% of drowning deaths are males, based on the U.S. Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention.

The Boundary Waters Canoe Space is close to the border with Ontario, Canada, about 25 miles north of Ely, Minnesota.
