On the anniversary of the bombings, Dodik called for the unification of RS and Serbia.
I see the future in the union of Serbia and Republika Srpska, said Milorad Dodik, leader of Republika Srpska, this entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina’ Dodik made this statement on Friday, March 24, in Sombor, where Serbian officials are mark the anniversary of the NATO intervention.
The bombing of the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, in 1999, began because of crimes committed by Serbian forces against the Albanian population in Kosovo. In the official speech, Dodik repeated the threats for the secession of Republika Srpska (RS).
“Now they want to grab the property, while I tell them – at the moment you try to grab our property, you have called a session of the Assembly of the Republika Srpska, where we will take a decision on the independence of the Republika Srpska. Enough with your false promises, I will not look at you and I will not tolerate you”, said Dodik.
His message comes a day after the Republika Srpska (RS) Government’s decision to end cooperation with the United States of America (US) and Great Britain and the publication of a draft law forcing non-governmental organizations to report all transactions that are financed from abroad.
The decision was taken at the session of the government of this entity, on Thursday, March 23, in Banja Llukë.
“They want only one thing, for the Serbs to leave. Long live the idea of uniting the Serbian people. And we want to join. We will do it peacefully”, said Dodik.
In a string of controversial decisions, the RS Assembly also approved a bill criminalizing defamation with fines of up to 60,000 euros.
Regarding the termination of diplomatic relations and the targeting of non-governmental organizations, the US Embassy in Sarajevo was among the first to react, which said that the announcements of the president of the Republic of Serbia are “yet another step in the dangerous path that he chose – the path of isolation and authoritarian rule”.
The European Union also reacted to changes in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Serbia, which restore criminal penalties for defamation. Expressing regret, she reportedly called for the amendment to be withdrawn.
Despite numerous calls from the international community, that it is about laws that are not European values, Dodik did not give up his goal of their approval.
The leader of Republika Srpska is already on the list of persons sanctioned by the United States of America and Great Britain, for corruption and violation of the legitimacy and functionality of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. /Rel
