Uganda Breweries Limited has become the overall winner of the 2nd edition of the Prudential Best HR Practices research report launched in Kampala by Prudential Uganda in partnership with Price House Water Coopers PwC.

The Prudential Best HR Practices Survey is a human capital and talent management study that aims to give employers the opportunity to hear from their employees how they (the employees) rate their organization’s HR practices.

The 2022 survey focused on 14 thematic areas: business performance and trust, reward and recognition, employee engagement and activation, quality and innovation, employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, learning and development, workplace culture and environment, environment , social and governance (ESG ) compliance.

It also focused on digital acceleration or upskilling, performance and talent management, employee growth and development, organizational policies/process effectiveness, and organizational agility and change management.

Prudential Uganda CEO Tetteh Ayitevie said at the awards gala at the Kampala Serena Hotel that they firmly believe that the workplace should embody excellence.

“As individuals spend a significant portion of their lives at work, it is essential that the workplace continuously evolves to meet the personal and professional aspirations of its employees.

“We understand that a pay slip alone is not enough; a conducive work environment that nurtures employees and enables them to achieve their goals is vital,” said Tetteh.

“We recognize that there is a direct correlation between a company’s culture and its performance. An organization’s culture can have a significant impact on employee satisfaction, productivity and overall business results.

“A strong culture can lead to innovation, collaboration and a sense of purpose in employees, while a weak culture can lead to low morale, disengagement and high turnover,” he added.

Uthman Mayanja, The Country Senior Partner, PwC Uganda said the survey is an invaluable resource for Chief Executive Officers and Human Resource professionals as it provides critical insight into the most successful practices for recruiting, managing and retaining top talent.

Mayanja said they saw an impressive 62% increase in response rates this year, from 1,526 respondents last year to 2,450 respondents this year, representing 117 participating organizations.

“This is testament to the increasing importance that organizations are attaching to HR practices. Through this research, we identified key trends in HR management practices and gained valuable insights into what matters most to employees in the workplace and their perceptions of various initiatives being implemented by employers.”

According to Mayanja, the survey is a call to action for everyone to review and consider human resource management best practices, and organizations should take a proactive role in creating a better work environment for all by participating in the survey and to make the necessary changes. as well as building a healthier and more productive workplace.

“We congratulate all winners and participants of the Best HR Practices Survey 2022, and we urge all organizations to create an environment that enhances employee productivity, which will in the long term enhance the socio-economic development of Uganda and will stimulate the region,” concludes Tetteh.

Key highlights from the study:

Fifteen industries participated in this year’s survey, yielding valuable insights. The financial services sector had the highest number of participating organizations at 38%. There was a notable increase in public sector involvement this year, with government agencies and authorities making up 16% of sectors participating, compared to just 5% from the previous year. year. This substantial increase in public sector participation highlights the growing importance of their involvement in the survey. Respondents between the ages of 31 and 40 (which includes millennial workers) made up the largest majority this year, with a notable 51% increase in participation compared to last year’s findings. This dramatic increase highlights the importance of this age group in the overall study and may indicate that this generation is most involved. The overriding themes in the survey are that workers want to retrain, that workers need more inclusiveness and more flexible working arrangements.
