House Judiciary Committee Chairman Representative Jim Jordan R-Ohio seeks testimony from senior counsel for the Manhattan District Attorney, who previously worked at the Justice Department.
In a letter Friday to Manhattan District Attorney senior counsel Matthew Colangelo, Jordan asked for his voluntary cooperation regarding the commission’s investigation into the charges against former President Donald Trump.
“Given your history of working for law enforcement agencies pursuing President Trump and the public coverage surrounding your decision to work for the New York County District Attorney’s Office, we request your cooperation in our oversight of your personal title,” Jordan wrote in the letter.
“According to news reports, District Attorney Alvin Bragg hired you in December 2022 to jump-start his office’s investigation into President Trump, allegedly because of your ‘history of tackling Donald J. Trump and his family business.’ You had previously held senior positions in the U.S. Department of Justice and the New York Attorney General’s Office, both of which had competing investigations related to President Trump,” the letter added.

Jordan is also requesting that Colangelo provide documents dated between June 22, 2021 and December 5, 2022 regarding communications with the New York County District Attorney’s Office discussing Trump or the Trump Organization.
“You are in a unique position to provide information relevant and necessary to the committee’s oversight and potential law reform. Your recent employment has largely focused on investigations surrounding President Trump,” the letter said.

Jordan’s letter comes days after Bragg harshly criticized the commission for issuing a subpoena for a former prosecutor in his office.

“The House GOP continues to attempt to undermine an active investigation and pending criminal case in New York with an unprecedented campaign of intimidation and intimidation. Repeated attempts to weaken state and local law enforcement action are an abuse of power and will not deter us from our duty This elected officials would better serve their constituents and the country and better fulfill their oath of office by doing their job in Congress and not encroaching on the sovereignty of New York State by interfering in an ongoing criminal case in state court,” Bragg said.
