Four people died, including three children, and another fifteen were injured after a fire that broke out this Friday in a youth shelter, located in the city of Recife, in Brazil.
“Three children and a woman died, while many other victims suffered burns due to a fire that occurred in a youth hostel in the city of Recife, Pernambuco state, in the northeast region of Brazil,” the Brazilian emergency service reported. .
The statement specified that “the fire started at the Hogar Paulo de Tarso Charity Institute, which is managed by an NGO that cares for young people in vulnerable situations.”

Regarding the fatalities, a child and a 62-year-old caregiver lost their lives at the scene of the fire. Meanwhile, two other minors died while being transferred to a hospital, according to reports from the Fire Department.
On the other hand, as for the injured, there are at least two minors who had to be intubated and their state of health is “serious,” said the Samur of Recife.
In addition, a group of children was rescued through the window of one of the rooms where they were sleeping. Firefighters only managed to control the fire two hours after receiving the alert.

Fifteen people, mostly minors, were admitted to three hospitals. Some are in intensive care rooms, according to official information.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the flames arose in a room where there was various electronic equipment and from there it spread to other parts of the shelter, according to rescuers from the Fire Department.
“The region is in mourning, all our solidarity to the families of the victims in this moment of great pain,” lamented the governor of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra.

As a result of the accident, 6 people were injured, who were hospitalized at the nearest medical center. The flames also reached three vehicles that were circulating in the area at the time of the incident.
