Obama, Spielberg and Springsteen dined at the Amar restaurant at the Palace Hotel in Barcelona on Thursday.
The superstar trio made a last minute booking and delighted the surprised restaurant staff.
The three visited the city ahead of a Springsteen concert on Friday night.
It was a case of guessing who’s coming for dinner when the staff of a top Spanish restaurant made a mysterious booking at the last minute. To their surprise, not one but three of the world’s most famous men finally arrived to sample the seafood menu.
On Thursday evening, former President Barack Obama, filmmaker Steven Spielberg and singer Bruce Springsteen dined at the Amar restaurant at the Palace Hotel in Barcelona.
The trio were in town on Friday ahead of Springsteen’s concert at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona.
Amar’s chef Rafa Zafra told a local news outlet that the surprise reservation was only made a few hours in advance. according to The Guardian.
Famous Spanish-American chef José Andrés “called me and told me it was a very important table, but please don’t say anything,” Zafra told Spanish radio station Cadena SER. “And of course I started investigating and saw that Obama was coming, that Bruce had a concert.”
The group arrived “tired” but wanted to “try everything,” Zafra told the outlet, and the group dined on oysters, shellfish and caviar.
They “even drank a little,” he added, saying, “The one who behaved the best was the one who had to work today,” Zafra said, referring to Springsteen’s concert on Friday.
Restaurant employee Pol Perello posted a photo on Instagram of the staff and chefs posing with the famous trio, commenting, “The joy this job brings you!”
Former First Lady Michelle Obama and Kate Capshaw, Spielberg’s wife, were also in town for the concert. The group would visit some of Barcelona’s famous tourist destinations, such as the Picasso Museum and Sagrada Familia Basilica. according to Reuters.
Obama and Springsteen his old friendsafter meeting when the singer-songwriter was performing for the Obama presidential campaign in 2008. The couple recently hosted a podcast-turned-book called “Renegades: Born in the USA.”
