Several people have been taken to hospital, including four with life-threatening injuries, after a head-on collision between a car and a school bus in New York, police said.

New Castle police said officers responded to the crash at around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday involving a Yorktown Central School District bus and a Honda Accord driven by an unlicensed 16-year-old in the Mount Kisco area, news outlets reported.

The preliminary investigation showed that the driver of the Honda “I lost control while taking a turn, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the bus,” police said in a statement.

The Honda driver and three passengers were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Passengers on the bus were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police. Officials did not specify how many people were on board.
