In the Ibarrola house there are seven children. Also, a wish. Every year one of them, from Milena, who is 21 years old and diagnosed with hydrocephalus, to Thiago, 8, make a wish for his birthday. In 2023 they all collaborated so that “Mile” could fulfill her dream of seeing Abel Pintos live and by 2024, little by little, they saved so that Dylan would have her first cell phone.
At the Ibarrola house they line up to fulfill wishes, but this Thursday, at 11:30 a.m., that dream turned into a prayer. Today, in Tortuguitas, they ask for a miracle.
There was no school that day, so Dylan woke up late. He walked two blocks to buy pan con chicharrón for his brothers. At 1 pm he had to play a soccer game. When he came back, he wrote on his cell phone: “Mom, I already bought the bread,” but he didn’t send it.
It was out of nowhere that two motorcycles appeared. With his back turned, Dylan didn’t see them coming. First they hit him three times with their rifle butts to the head and when he, frightened, crouched down, they shot him. They wanted the cell phone he had in his hand. Hernán, his father, says that “the screen is all blown up and the back cover is missing.”
According to her mother, Vanesa Aguilar (37), “it shouldn’t even be worth 5,000 pesos.” She had it on her because they don’t have cash and she paid for her purchases at the bakery with Mercado Pago.
Dylan uses it from time to time to check in with his parents. He doesn’t have a camera or games, it’s just for security. “I know that he did not resist because I have prohibited it. Besides, that cell phone … I think he must have been scared,” Hernán Ibarrola (39) told Clarín stationed at the Malvinas Argentinas Trauma Hospital, where Dylan is on a mechanical respirator , sedated and serious.
Dylan, the 13-year-old boy shot in Tortuguitas.
The videos recorded the robbery. Also, the escape of the assailants. Dylan is seen walking down the street, perhaps writing the message that he never sent to Vanessa, his mother. They cornered him against the cordon and beat him. A. Two. Three times. Then the shot rings out and the bike accelerates.
The street was full of neighbors who allowed Dylan to make it to the hospital alive. The ambulance never appeared and it was the witnesses to the robbery who forced the patrolman to transfer him while they squeezed the wound, which did not stop bleeding.
“The shot entered through his arm, entered his rib, injured his heart and perforated his lung. Then his liver burst and came out. He lost 90 percent of his blood. When he arrived, they saved his life. He is asleep, with a respirator, he has a gash on his chest and his belly is all open. Tubes are coming out everywhere. It’s bad,” repeats Hernán, who is “24 hours a day” in the hospital.
The man is a painter and does electricity odds. Vanesa, his wife, works doing cleaning tasks in hotels in Núñez, near the River field. With seven children, they both decided to work to achieve their dream of “progressing”. Having your “first little car” or going on a “family vacation”.

“We wanted that achievement to see Milton play football, to be able to all go together on weekends to see him. And this happened,” Hernán laments. Milton plays for Argentino Juniors and has just turned 12. “That we are the perfect duo. You have to play a game for your life. That we have Ibarrola blood,” the boy posted.
“He -by Dylan- could play in Argentinos Juniors with his brother, but he didn’t want to. He really likes mathematics and his dream is to be an accountant. Then he told me he didn’t want to play, so we helped him so he could fulfill his dream on tomorrow”, reviews Hernán.
Vanesa uploaded several photos of her son to social networks and wrote a moving message.
“He is my Dylan… This is him… A boy with a huge heart, the boy who with a lot of effort gets up early to buy bread for his brothers… The boy who is a genius playing chess, The one who likes numbers and who wants to be an accountant… The boy who is the most Boca fan that could exist, the one I infected with my passion and the one who drills my head with every game… The boy who loves to play ball in an impressive way, whoever was on and off the pitch is humble and respectful”.
And he asked: “Fight and fight until the end as you are doing, that mom is always waiting for you, my baby.”
“He was given two hours of dialysis again because he did not pee as the doctors wanted… but they lowered the dose of a heart medicine and he is stable. It is not said that he is not delicate but they told him that today he really made progress. He is responding little by little. Let’s keep asking for more miracles,” Franco Ibarrola, Dylan’s uncle, reported to all those who are waiting attentively for the boy’s recovery.
The investigation
For the brutal attack on Dylan there is a detainee. The suspect was identified as Luis Emiliano Franco (26) and was captured on Saturday night after a raid in the Frino neighborhood of José C. Paz. They got to him thanks to the security cameras that detected him escaping in that sense.
The investigation, in the hands of the prosecutor Marisa Marino of the UFI No. 21 of Malvinas Argentinas, was characterized as “homicide criminis causa in the degree of attempt and robbery aggravated by the use of a firearm also attempted.”
Marino investigated Franco for that crime and asked that his arrest be converted into detention due to the amount of evidence against him.
One suspect remains and it is unclear, at this time, who shot Dylan. When consulted by this newspaper, sources of the investigation reported that they have not yet arrested the second suspect and that they have not been able to certify Franco’s criminal record, although he would have an extensive criminal record.
“I do not feel resentment, I do not hate. I do not wish evil on anyone, not even on these people. I do want them to pay in Justice tomorrow. But there is no place in my heart for hate. I only have directed love towards my son, so that he recovers. The only thing I ask of everyone is to pray for my son, to think of him, I need ‘my bull’ to recover, to leave here as healthy as possible,” he asked. Hernan.
Dylan plays soccer for Sociedad de Fomento Iparraguirre and Club Deportivo Los Polvorines. His friends and colleagues organized a collection to help the teenager’s parents because, being independent and unable to work, they saw their income slow. For that, they spread a Mercado Pago account under the alias Hernan.boca.ibarrola for those who can help him.
“They call my son ‘bull’ because no one can turn him around,” Hernán closes. “We need everyone to get him out of here. He’s a good, affectionate baby, he doesn’t know the street. Every day, when I get home from work, he asks me for a hug. That’s what I want, to come and tell me: ‘Hey, dad. You didn’t give me a hug. What’s wrong? Did you run out of strength? Squeeze me more.'”
