A Philadelphia woman’s Uber ride Wednesday night took a dramatic turn when her driver was shot in the head, causing the vehicle to jump over a curb and crash into a power pole, police said.

Philadelphia police said the unidentified female passenger, 18, told detectives she heard gunshots and crouched in the seat to avoid injury when her driver, 34, was struck in the head and then crashed.

“He was driving the 18-year-old passenger when a bullet passed through both headrests in the Honda CR-V and struck him in the head,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Scott Small. “Then the driver lost control, jumped over the curb and over the power pole. There it (the vehicle) came to a stop.”

“She was extremely lucky because that bullet missed her by inches since she was in the back seat when the bullet came through the rear window,” Small added on the scene.
