Africa Data Centers (www.AfricaDataCentres.com), a Cassava Technologies group company, is pleased to announce that the London Internet Exchange (LINX) (www.LINX.net) has brought them on board as a full point of presence (PoP ) for the new East African interconnection hub, LINX Nairobi (https://apo-opa.info/43TVYhp).

The announcement follows news of a strategic partnership last month between the two organizations to secure growth and opportunities in new markets in Africa, improve connectivity and provide digital services to citizens.

LINX Nairobi is going live in the coming weeks and is the regions first interconnected, multi-site Internet Exchange Point (IXP). The platform’s technical specification mirrors LINX’s designs in the UK and US, providing redundancy and resiliency for networks peering there.

Kenya is uniquely positioned to serve the entire East African region with its fast-growing fiber connectivity, through its well-connected submarine cable network with paths to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

With this announcement, customers of the Africa Data Centers NBO1 (Nairobi facility will have direct access to the new LINX Nairobi peering community in Kenya through a single cross-connect and will also benefit from additional services such as LINXs 24-hour, on-call support and portal access.

In addition, networks connecting to LINX Nairobi from any of the data center locations can establish peering agreements with each other, building a strong digital ecosystem in the area and driving traffic to stay local.

Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX notes;

“With LINX Nairobi, we are not only creating a hub for Kenya, but for the whole of East Africa. The fast-growing region has tremendous demand for low latency, high speed, and enhanced interconnectivity. LINX Nairobi will not only serve local networks, but also attract international internet providers and hyperscalers.”

“ADC has already built an impressive network portfolio in its Nairobi data center, so it makes perfect sense for LINX to partner with ADC. LINX Nairobi will enable connections for all networks hosted by ADC and we welcome them to the new LINX Nairobi ecosystem.”

Tesh Durvasula, CEO of Africa Data Centers added:

“Adding the LINX PoP to our NBO1 facility will allow us to better support our customers with an even wider variety of interconnection options than we have today.”

He says the partnership between Africa Data Centers and LINX highlights the company’s strong growth and momentum. “We are thrilled to be working together to further enhance our ecosystem to create more interconnection and peering options to strengthen our ecosystem.”

According to Durvasula, most modern companies have adopted a hybrid model of private and public clouds for their workloads. “As a result, a significant amount of network traffic flows between data centers, cloud providers, customers using cloud services and ultimately end users.”

This could pose a major challenge for entities operating these hybrid environments, as the available connectivity often does not provide the necessary speed and reliability to handle such large volumes of traffic.

“Having an effective interconnection strategy in place is critical for businesses around the world as it ensures efficient distribution of workloads across the entire infrastructure, creating an integrated and resilient network. This PoP is just one more way Africa Data Centers is helping businesses across Africa connect to the rest of the world while keeping their data within their own borders,” concludes Durvasula.
