A workers member for Republican Sen. Katie Britt was robbed at gunpoint on Thursday evening, Washington D.C. Police confirmed.

In response to FOX 5 D.C., Amanda Peper, a scheduler for the senator, was robbed at gunpoint at 8:30 p.m. within the 1200 block of E Avenue, Northeast on Thursday. 

Police mentioned that the Peper was strolling to her constructing when she was approached by a person who pointed a gun in her face and mentioned “Give me your purse and keys.”

Peper complied with the carjacker and gave him her belongings, police mentioned.

Alabama Sen. Britt thanked officers who responded to the scene, however mentioned it’s “infuriating and utterly unacceptable” that her workers member was attacked. The Republican senator blamed “out-of-control” crime in Washington D.C. for the incident.

“We thank God that she is secure and sound after this terrifying incident, and we’re grateful to the Capitol Police Division and Metropolitan Police Division officers who shortly and professionally responded to the scene,” Sen. Britt’s workplace mentioned in an announcement to Fox Information Digital. “It’s infuriating and utterly unacceptable that an American who’s on Capitol Hill to serve her nation can not safely stroll the streets of Washington, D.C. at 8:30 at evening due to the out-of-control crime on this metropolis.”

Earlier this month, Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar was carjacked at gunpoint by three males.

“DC’s Metropolitan Police Division is investigating an armed carjacking that occurred round 9:30 p.m. in DC’s Navy Yard neighborhood,” Capitol police mentioned. “The sufferer has been recognized as a Member of Congress, so the USCP has investigators working with MPD on this case. In March, Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul mentioned {that a} member of his workers was “brutally attacked.”

“This previous weekend a member of my workers was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington, D.C.,” Paul mentioned in an announcement. “I ask you to affix Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and full restoration, and thanking the primary responders, hospital workers, and police for his or her diligent actions.”
