Andelathe global remote tech talent network, has announced the launch of the Andela Rwanda Apprenticeship Program, a 12-week program that aims to introduce global organizations to the vast potential of emerging Rwandan tech talent.

The internship program offers companies the chance to build their team with graduate students from the Andela Technical Leadership Program (ATLP). The ATLP is Andela Rwanda’s signature accelerator program, in partnership with the country’s Ministry of ICT and Innovation, which gives Rwandans the requisite software engineering they need to become future technology leaders.

The ATLP simulates a real-world technology product setup, where participants learn to work within a team to build web applications using best practices based on Javascript and its frameworks. The program has so far successfully trained 380 junior engineers from ten different African countries, with over 70% of ATLP graduates currently employed. There are currently 150 additional students in the program.

Andela’s developer students have undergone intensive training in the PERN software stack (PostgreSQL & MongoDB, Express. React, Node). They also went through an immersive, experiential process to learn the soft skills necessary to thrive as a professional on any distributed tech team.

Andela apprentices will be tasked with adding business value to their ‘adopter’ organization and improving the performance of their team. Organizations are invited to participate in the program to increase the productivity of their teams and contribute to the technical growth and development of technical talent on the African continent. Organizations provide a grant directly to their student.

Mike B NdimuruKundo, Managing Director, Andela Rwanda

“The Apprenticeship Program offers global organizations a unique opportunity to tap the vast potential of Rwandan engineering talent and shape the future of technology growth in Africa. By working with Andela’s skilled and dedicated apprentices, companies not only improve the performance of their teams, but also contribute to the development of technical talent on the continent. Join us in empowering the next generation of African technology leaders.” – Mike B NdimuruKundo, Managing Director, Andela Rwanda.

Andela Rwanda will support the participating organizations throughout the three-month program including performance management through a strong and tight feedback loop between the learner and an organization’s team leader to ensure the learner is fully aware of all expectations and acts accordingly. In addition, monthly technical workshops will be available, as well as coaching sessions that help upskill and improve their student’s knowledge so they prove to be a greater asset to teams.
