Kapadia is the director of documentaries “Amy” and “Senna.” On Oct. 9, the Grierson Belief revealed the appointment of three new patrons, Dorothy Byrne, Kapadia and Louis Theroux. They joined the Belief’s present patrons, David Attenborough, Nick Broomfield, Christopher Hird, Kim Longinotto, Charlotte Moore, Norma Percy and Grayson Perry.

“Because the Grierson Belief introduced that Asif Kapadia had been appointed as one in all our patrons, some social media posts shared by him have been drawn to our consideration that are antisemitic. Because of this, at an 8 am board assembly this morning, we took the choice to rescind his position as patron of the Belief,” the Belief stated in an announcement on Friday.

“After we made the choice to nominate Mr. Kapadia, the board was not conscious of those posts, a few of which look like now not out there, and we’re sorry that our due diligence was not thorough sufficient. The Grierson Belief is deeply dedicated to selling each freedom of speech and variety and inclusion within the documentary business. Whereas we settle for and help that everybody has a reputable proper to precise their views on controversial points, this can not justify racist statements or habits. As we’ve got pressured prior to now and can proceed to uphold, the Belief has a zero tolerance strategy to racism of all types,” the Belief added.
