The death toll when a man drove his vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians in Brownsville, Texas, on Sunday has risen to eight, police say, and at least 11 were injured.
Brownsville police told Fox News eight victims died at the scene and at least 11 others were transported to area hospitals. The driver, who police have confirmed is a Hispanic man, has been arrested and charged, but the investigation is ongoing.
All eight people who died in the crash were migrants, officials confirmed.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the driver, but he is currently receiving medical treatment at a regional hospital and under 24-hour supervision. The suspect is also being tested for drugs and alcohol.
The incident took place outside the Ozanam Center in Brownsville, a community shelter for migrants and the homeless. It is unclear whether the bomb shelter was relevant to the attack.

The victims were waiting at around 8:30 am on Sunday at a bus stop next to the center when the attack took place.
So far, the driver has only been charged with reckless driving, but the investigation is ongoing. Sandoval told local media that more charges are likely to be filed, adding that the attack appeared to be deliberate.
Witnesses near the intersection reported seeing several bodies on the street, as well as a group of women praying nearby, according to Valley Central.

The incident came less than a day after a gunman opened fire on shoppers at a mall in Allen, Texas, on Saturday, killing eight people and injuring seven others. Police shot and killed the gunman, identified as Mauricio Garcia, 33, of Dallas, Texas.
