Beyond George: Soros family members supported directly

admin

In May 2021, financier George Soros pushed $1 million to the Color of Change PAC, which turned and spent big on supporting the candidacy of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the person who is considering suing former President Donald Trump for allegedly hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

The contribution has since returned to the spotlight after Trump and Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis criticized Bragg for his ties to the money.

However, Soros was not the only member of his family whose money supported his candidacy. Soros’ son, Jonathan Soros, and Jonathan’s wife, Jennifer Allan Soros, donated directly to Bragg’s campaign, according to New York campaign financials reviewed by Fox News Digital.

On April 26, 2021, Jonathan Soros mailed a check for $10,000 to the now District Attorney’s Treasury, state documents show. Three days later, on April 29, Jennifer Allan Soros added a $10,000 contribution to the campaign. While other individuals provided money more directly to his commission, the pair were among some of the largest donors in the field.

The contributions were also unusual for the couple, as they generally do not become financially involved in races for prosecutors, although they have donated to other New York political campaigns and trouble groups. Jonathan Soros did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the Bragg donations.

George Soros, on the other hand, has targeted countless prosecutors with millions of dollars in recent years.

The Soros district attorney’s operation usually involves his old treasurer Whitney Tymas, who creates “pop-up” political action committees in states where he targets the races. Once set up, the financier injects money into the PACs, who typically spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to support their preferred candidates. The PACs are usually dissolved after the elections.

In Bragg’s case, this did not happen. Instead, in May 2021, Soros donated $1 million to the Color of Change PAC, which spent cash in subsequent weeks to support Bragg’s candidacy. The timing of the money makes it likely that it helped the effort.

Soros spokesman Michael Vachon did not respond to a request from Fox News Digital for press comment on the matter.

Soros has provided financial support to dozens of far-left prosecutors, which he sees as an important part of overhauling the criminal justice system. Controversial DAs like Larry Krasner in Philadelphia, Kim Foxx in Chicago, Kim Gardner in St. Louis, and George Gascón in Los Angeles have all gotten huge boosts from his money.

The possible charges stem from an alleged $130,000 hush money payment that then-Trump attorney Michael Cohen made to Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, in the weeks leading up to the 2016 presidential election in exchange for her silence over an alleged sexual encounter. with Trump. in 2006.

Federal prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York chose not to indict Trump in connection with the Daniels payment in 2019, even as Cohen implicated him as part of his plea deal. The Federal Election Commission also threw its investigation into the matter in 2021.
