The Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, has said that the mayors elected in the 4 northern municipalities can exercise their responsibilities only from the municipality buildings. Regarding this, he talked with the rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Viola von Cramon, whom he met at the meeting.
Bislimi emphasized that it is important that the mayors in the north start providing services to citizens as soon as possible.
“Regarding the situation in the north, it was reiterated that it is important for the elected mayors to start providing services to citizens as soon as possible. As mayors of municipalities, they can exercise their responsibilities only from the buildings of the municipality, from where they serve the interests of every citizen without distinction”, it was announced in the communiqué of the Government of Kosovo.
Some Serbs in Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic, are protesting against the entry of the new Albanian mayors into the municipal facilities. The Kosovo Police and members of KFOR have increased their presence, while the Serbs in Zveçan have thrown tear gas in the direction of the Police.
The situation in these municipalities became tense on Friday, May 26, when the sworn mayors were forced to enter their work offices under the assistance of the Kosovo Police.
