Home lawmakers subpoenaed Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday over his alleged refusal to testify in regards to the Biden administration’s lethal 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The Home International Affairs Committee stated Blinken should seem earlier than the committee on Sept. 19 or face contempt costs, the committee stated in a letter written by Republican Chairman Michael McCaul, of Texas. 

“It’s disappointing that as an alternative of continuous to have interaction with the Division in good religion, the Committee as an alternative has issued one more pointless subpoena,” State Division spokesperson Matthew Miller stated in an announcement, Reuters reported.

The committee has been investigating the chaotic withdrawal, which ended with 13 U.S. army service members killed, for years.
