With simply a few weeks remaining in his presidency, Joe Biden will honor a brand new group of Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients right this moment.
Bono, Michael J. Fox, George Stevens Jr. and Denzel Washington are among the many 19 honorees acknowledged as “nice leaders who’ve made America and the world a greater place,” the White Home mentioned. The nation’s highest civilian honor, the Medal Of Freedom is offered “to people who’ve made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or safety of the USA, world peace, or different important societal, public or non-public endeavors.”
The ceremony will happen within the East Room on the White Home later right this moment.
Additionally being honored are chef José Andrés, Hillary Clinton, entrepreneur and LGBTQI advocate Tim Gill, ethologist and conservationist Jane Goodall, Magic Johnson, dressmaker Ralph Lauren, soccer star Lionel Messi, Invoice Nye the Science Man, The Carlyle Group’s co-founder and co-chairman David Rubenstein, investor and philanthropist George Soros and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
Being honored posthumously are former Secretary of Protection Ash Carter, Robert F. Kennedy, civil rights pioneer Fannie Lou Hammer and former Michigan governor George Romney.
For the White Home, Bono is being acknowledged because the “frontman for legendary rock band U2 and a pioneering activist towards AIDS and poverty”; Fox as an Emmy profitable actor and “world-renowned advocate for Parkinson’s illness analysis and improvement”; Stevens for a profession “devoted to preserving and celebrating the most effective of American movie and the performing arts, together with by founding the American Movie Institute and creating the Kennedy Middle Honors”; and Washington as an Oscar-winning actor who served “as Nationwide Spokesman for the Boys & Ladies Golf equipment of America for over 25 years.”
