Neighbors say a graphic video of a sex act taking place in public in Boston’s Mass and Cass hallway shows something they’ve seen many times before.

Those who live and work near the city’s open-air drug market told the Boston 25 News that they were tired of witnessing sexual activity, overt drug use and other behavior that would otherwise be considered illicit.

The community group that shared the graphic images on social media said they did this to prove to government officials what they regularly deal with.

They point to the reality that children passing through the area witness things that no child should see.

“It happens every day. It’s something that’s in our face,” South End mom Janina Rackard said. “My life has changed. My child’s childhood has changed.”

Rackard, whose daughter is completing her freshman year of high school, said she feels her daughter’s childhood has been tarnished by what she has observed in the community.

“Children are affected. Children are hurt,” she said. “Where do we go from here, and when will it be resolved?”

Neighbors and community leaders are concerned that quality of life problems will only get worse in the warmer months.

“This video shows that we need to do something,” said community activist Yahaira Lopez. “People are allowed to do things that they normally can’t do in other communities outside of Boston.”

Boston 25 New has reached out to the City of Boston about the community’s concerns and has yet to hear back.
