Boston mayor posts picture of controversial ‘electeds of colour’ occasion regardless of criticism

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has proudly posted a photograph of all of the attendees of her “electeds of colour” vacation occasion regardless of the gathering coming in for heavy criticism for excluding white lawmakers.

Earlier this week, a member of Wu’s employees mistakenly despatched your entire metropolis council an invite to the occasion on the city-owned Parkman Home close to the Massachusetts Statehouse.

Having realized the error, the aide despatched out a second electronic mail about quarter-hour later apologizing for the preliminary electronic mail. The 13-member metropolis council is made up of six minorities and 7 White members. It’s understood that the White members weren’t invited. 

Whereas the mayor and her aide apologized for the unintended invite, they didn’t apologize for planning a celebration that excluded White metropolis leaders.

Critics have panned the occasion as being segregationist and anti-White, with Fox Information’ Greg Gutfeld accusing Wu of getting a historical past of “blatant racism.”

The exclusionary invite was criticized Wednesday by one White member of the town council as “unlucky and divisive,” based on the Boston Herald.

Nonetheless, Black Metropolis Councilor Brian Worrell held a special opinion and defended the invitation, suggesting the vacation occasion was merely a technique to symbolize “every kind of particular teams” within the Boston authorities. 

On Friday, Wu championed the banquet as a celebration of range, writing that the variety of minority lawmakers has grown since she was first elected to the town council in 2014.

Ricardo Patrón, Wu’s press secretary, mentioned no metropolis funds have been used to pay for the occasion.

The picture sparked a blended response on-line, though one poster claimed Wu was knocking down unfavorable feedback.

“You are an absolute shame to the town of Boston!!! Disgrace on you,” wrote one other.

Wu did have supporters within the feedback part.

“Nice to see such range! Each American ought to see themselves represented of their elected officers!” wrote considered one of them.
