LOS ANGELES — A Southern California high school student was killed and others injured Tuesday after a man suspected of a previous stabbing hit them with his vehicle during a rollover accident, officials said.

The crash that killed a 15-year-old boy in Thousand Oaks, west of Los Angeles, is believed to have been intentional.

“Today’s traffic collision was ruled an intentional act,” Captain William Hutton, a Ventura County sheriff’s spokesman, said late Tuesday.

A motive has not been released. The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Austin Eis, but it was not clear if he had been booked late Tuesday. He was under surveillance at a hospital, Hutton said.

Three other teens were injured when a single vehicle overturned, Ventura County Deputy Sheriff Ashely Barrios previously told reporters.

Those injured were two girls, 16 and 14, and a 15-year-old boy, she said. Their terms were not immediately available.

All four were Westlake High School students, and they were hit on a sidewalk at about 3:15 p.m., said Mark McLaughlin, the Superintendent of the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

Eis is also suspected of stabbing an employee at a Walmart in Simi Valley, north of Thousand Oaks, around 2:40 p.m.

Barrios said that after the stabbing, the suspect went to Camarillo, a town west of Simi Valley, where some sort of domestic dispute was taking place with relatives. No one was injured there.

He then traveled to Thousand Oaks where the rollover crash occurred, Barrios said.

Helicopter video of NBC Loose Angels showed a white vehicle on its roof near the sidewalk and a covered bus stop nearby. The crash site was near Westlake High School, the station reported.

The sheriff’s office said the car that crashed was the same white Toyota Camry missing its front bumper that was seen exiting the Walmart after the stabbing.

The Sheriff’s Office and the Simi Valley Police Department said a motive for the stabbing at the Walmart had not been determined. An investigation is underway, the department said.

The school district said counselors will be available at Westlake High School, as well as on campuses across the district.

A number for anyone associated with Eis in Ventura County could not immediately be found in online public records late Tuesday. It was not clear if he had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

Thousand Oaks is a city of about 120,000 people in Ventura County, west of Los Angeles.
