The team of the show “Exclusive” together with Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha, have traveled to Ukraine, a Ukraine that has been the barn of Europe and the whole world, has now turned into a minefield due to the war.
A Ukraine, from the country with the highest GDP of all time of 199.77 billion dollars in 2021, would return to the land of pain, suffering, but also the place where the stories of survival and resurgence come together. Like the bombed-out home of little Daniel, a child thrust into the world’s media spotlight after losing his childhood to war. And that after the Russian attack, he tried to keep his mother alive, who was wounded by a piece of shell.
All the men of Daniel’s family are at war. The child, whose mother was injured in the limb, traveled with him to Germany to stay by his side during the treatment. In his hometown, called Novoselvika, not far from the Russian and Belarusian border, Nina stayed.
The 64-year-old grandmother lives between the ruins on one side and the new walls being erected on the other. Volunteers are building a new home for the Ukrainian family, who are expected to start life where it has been suspended since February 2022.
“I am located in Novoselvika, a village which is almost 3 kilometers from Chernihiv, a region attacked by Russian forces last year. I am right at the house of the 11-year-old named Daniel, whose mother was injured. The volunteer forces are building a new house so that when Daniel returns, they will find a shelter and a home,” reports journalist Anila Hoxha.
“Last year, our Daniel became known because of our and the child’s efforts to cope with the consequences of the Russian attack. He sold the cow’s milk, went to the farm, sold it to buy medicine for the mother who was impossible and struggling. He had only a backpack, and managed to save documents. He was walking and had no clothes. This is where I stand, now, after the destruction of the house. Son and son-in-law are fighting. Daniel fled to Germany with his mother. The girl has moved to Kiev, because there is no longer a place to stay here. The attack happened between March 21 and March 22, there were soldiers everywhere,” said Daniel’s grandmother, Nina Vinnik.
With a trembling voice, the old woman tells how only the cats are left to keep her company.
“The cats have stayed with me, they are also injured, they have marks” – said Vinnik, revealing that he was also visited by President Volodymyr Zelensky, who took a photo with the cat.
“We came as volunteers for Daniel’s house, we want him to find the house when he returns, so we came to build it. We have nothing to lose, we are ruined. The volunteers built the walls of the new house that is being built, everything is being built from nothing. Check it out for yourself, there are many, many more rubbish like this. We are here, we have built 300 buildings in this area so far and we will continue. It is being done with a donation and the help of the citizens of Cernihiv, who, like other buildings and houses, but build their own house” – says the volunteer Andrii Halugha.
Russia’s war in Ukraine, already in its 16th month, has claimed the lives of at least 500 children in this country, as President Volodymyr Zelensky himself has claimed. The extraction of the lifeless body of a two-year-old girl from the ruins of her apartment hit by Russian missiles in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, was a moment of reflection for the head of state of Ukraine on the horrors of this war, and its consequences for even the smallest creatures. innocent like children.
This death became the latest cry for attention of the country that has been under brutal and unprovoked aggression for more than a year now. “Russian weapons and hatred, which continues to take and destroy the lives of Ukrainian children every day,” has killed hundreds of children since the start of the war on February 24, 2022 – said Zelensky.
“Most of them could become famous scientists, artists, sports champions, or contribute to Ukrainian history,” he added painfully. According to the head of the Ukrainian state, even the figure he offers is still approximate as it is impossible.
“The exact number of minors who have lost their lives due to the ongoing conflict is unknown, and this is also due to the fact that some Ukrainian territories are now under Russian occupation. We must hold strong and win this war. The whole of Ukraine, all the people, all the children, must be freed from the Russian terror” – Zelensky would say at the time.
