China’s space cargo ship has successfully re-docked with the country’s space station after more than a month of independent flight, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said on Tuesday.
“China’s cargo spacecraft Tianzhou-5 re-docked with the @CNSspaceStation combination in orbit on Tuesday, after a 33-day standalone flight,” the Chinese Space Station official account said in a statement.
“The combination is currently in good condition and follow-up work will be done as planned.”
The Tianzhou-5 cargo spacecraft successfully docked at the Chinese Space Station at 5:10 am on Tuesday (Monday 1910GMT), China’s broadcaster CGTN reported, citing a CMSA statement.
On November 12, 2022, Beijing launched the cargo ship from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in southern Hainan province and completed an automated fast rendezvous and docking with the space station.
The cargo spacecraft had previously separated from the orbiting combination of the space station on May 5 and temporarily switched to standalone flight mode to make room for its successor, Tianzhou-6. According to the report, it was in orbit independently for 33 days before docking again.
Returning to Earth on Sunday, the propellant carried six months of supplies for the Shenzhou-15 crew, including science facilities, a cube satellite, hydrogen fuel cells and experimental payloads.
