Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his counterparts from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to discuss bilateral relations and trade in Xi’an, northwest China’s Shaanxi province, on Thursday, a day before the first China-Central Asia Summit kicks off.
Central Asian leaders, who are in China for state visits, will attend the two-day China-Central Asia Summit, which will begin in the city on Friday.
According to the official statement, during his meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, the President of China welcomed him for the summit and his official visit to China, and said that their previous meetings produced important mutual understanding and cooperation in various fields between the two countries’ relations. by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“These common understandings are effectively implemented and give a strong impetus to bilateral relations,” Xi said.
He added that China is ready to work with Kyrgyzstan to create a Sino-Kyrgyzstan society with a common future based on good neighborliness and common prosperity, to cooperate in all dimensions and to contribute to the development and revival of both countries.
In a separate meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, the Chinese president said that their bilateral relations have progressed from good neighborly to strategic partnership and then to a comprehensive strategic partnership, according to the state-owned Xinhua News Agency.
He also assured Rahmon that China is ready to work with Tajikistan under new conditions to develop cooperation in various fields.
Xi hosted Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for bilateral talks on Wednesday.
According to the joint statement by Beijing, “Kazakhstan adheres strictly to the one-China principle, reaffirms that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legal government representing all of China, and that Taiwan is an integral part of China. all its efforts to bring about its reunification in such a way.”
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Serdar Berdimuhammedov, as well as Zhaparov and Rahmon, will attend the China-Central Asia summit respectively.
Strengthening economic cooperation, security issues and the Ukraine crisis are expected to be discussed at the summit.
Total trade between China and Central Asian countries reached a historic high of $70.2 billion last year, according to details released by Beijing.
In addition, the China-Central Asia pipeline delivered 43.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China last year, while Beijing’s imports of energy, agricultural and mineral products increased by nearly 50%.
Imports of mechanical and electronic products from China by five Central Asian countries also increased by about 42% last year.
