Cornell College cancels courses Friday amid ‘extraordinary stress,’ following antisemitic threats

Cornell College has canceled courses on Friday after a scholar was charged with making on-line antisemitic threats in opposition to Jewish folks on campus.

As an alternative of courses, college students and employees will take pleasure in a “group day,” November 3.

A spokesperson on the Ivy League college stated that call to shut on Friday was made “in recognition of the extraordinary stress of the previous few weeks.”

The cancellation comes after Cornell College junior Patrick Dai was arrested Tuesday for writing antisemitic posts on a Greek life message board.

“Be careful pig Jews. Jihad is coming. Nowhere is protected. Your synagogue will develop into graveyards. Your ladies will likely be raped, and your youngsters will likely be beheaded. Glory to Allah,” Dai allegedly wrote Oct. 28, based on a felony criticism.

The posts have been made within the Cornell College dialogue discussion board below varied usernames together with “kill jews, “hamas soldier” and “sieg heil.”

Dai allegedly threatened to “shoot up 104 west,” a campus eating corridor that serves kosher meals. The cafeteria is subsequent door to the Cornell Middle for Jewish Dwelling, which supplies housing for Jewish college students.

In a press launch Tuesday, Vice President for College Relations Joel Malina condemned Dai’s motion and thanked regulation enforcement that acted “so swiftyly.”

“Cornell College is grateful to the FBI for working so swiftly to determine and apprehend the suspect on this case, a Cornell scholar, who stays in custody…” Malina stated.

“We stay shocked by and condemn these horrific, antisemitic threats and imagine they need to be prosecuted to the complete extent of the regulation,” Malina stated. “We all know that our campus group will proceed to assist each other within the days forward.”
