After a search of his cell, they found a cell phone and two notebooks with bank account numbers. He was arrested for armed robbery and now he has added a new case against him for “alleged fraud.”

A criminal who is detained for an armed robbery created a false company from prison that offered household items and defrauded more than 100 people in the city of Resistencia, in Chaco.

The investigation began after a complaint from a victim, who at the end of 2022 contacted a company through Facebook’s Marketplace platform to buy a Golden Voyage tricycle that they had for sale.

After the first conversations, the woman contacted an alleged employee of the company and agreed to pay 18,200 pesos in exchange for the product.

Once he deposited the money in the bank account that they gave him and which is in the name of a man, they stopped answering his calls and he never received the tricycle.

For their part, the detectives managed to determine that the fake company belonged to a man who was detained in the Resistencia prison. They also confirmed that it was not an isolated episode, but that he had already defrauded more than a hundred people in the same way.

With all this information, agents from the Economic Crimes and Special Laws Division of the provincial Police carried out a search of a cell in Chaco Penitentiary Complex 1 at 7:00 a.m. this Wednesday.

There they kidnapped a cell phone and two notebooks containing various notes, with phone numbers, bank accounts, CBU and aliases.

There he will remain detained while his procedural situation in the new case is resolved and then he will return to the Resistencia prison to finish serving his sentence.

As explained by the director of the Santa Fe Penitentiary Service, Gabriel Leegstra, it was “intelligence work that was carried out together with the deputy director of Unit 1 of Coronda, personnel from the control and requisition directorate.”

As a result of the searches, 51 cell phones were found “in different cells that belong to the pavilion of federal prisoners, 275 packages with prohibited substances, a small precision scale, strikes and other elements.”

The investigation that led to the operation began last week, after several phone calls originating from the prison were detected. The tracking of these communications led the investigators to set their eyes on pavilion 1 of that prison, which is intended for federal prisoners through an agreement between the province of Santa Fe and the national government.

“It was a big blow. We are very satisfied. Now we are in the final stage of testing the technology that was placed at the entrance to the prisons. This Thursday the Ministry of Health approves the protocols, so we are days away from that the system be formally implemented. Everything is already installed: the cargo conveyor belt and the metal detector arch. As in the airports, the income will be registered, with alarms,” explained Walter Gálvez, Secretary of Criminal Affairs and penitentiaries of the province.
