FIRST ON FOX: Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, files a resolution that would condemn the Mexican president for threatening to interfere in US elections in response to Republican moves to crack down on fentanyl smuggling across the border – with the Texas legislature stating called for a “united front” of Congress.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador threatened to launch an “information campaign” in March after Republicans — including Crenshaw — suggested the U.S. may need to take military action against cartels in Mexico that produce fentanyl and move it across the border.
Fentanyl is primarily produced in Mexico using Chinese precursors and then shipped across the US land border. The illicit opioid, which is 50-100 times more potent than morphine and can be deadly in small doses, is responsible for more than 70,000 U.S. deaths each year.

But with Republicans calling for more action against the cartels, including military interventions and statements by the Foreign Terrorist Organization, Lopez pushed back Obrador and proceeded to punish Republicans at the ballot box.
“Starting today, we are going to launch an education campaign for Mexicans living and working in the United States and for all Hispanics to educate them about what we are doing in Mexico and how this initiative by the Republicans, besides being irresponsible, is.” an insult to the people of Mexico, a disrespect for our independence, our sovereignty,” he said.

“And if they don’t change their attitude and think they’re going to use Mexico for their propaganda, electoral and political purposes, we’re going to call on them not to vote for that party because it’s interventionist, inhumane, hypocritical.” , and corrupt,” Lopez Obrador said, later adding that Mexico would insist that “not one vote” goes from Mexicans and Hispanics to Republicans.
Crenshaw’s resolution notes that foreign interference in another country’s elections “is a violation of the law and of long-established international customs, including the United Nations Declaration on the Principles of International Law relating to Friendly Relations and Co-operation among States in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations”
It also highlights that it is not the time that the controversial Mexican prime minister has made such threats, as he targeted Texas Governor Greg Abbott in July 2022, saying that Mexico is “going to ask our compatriots there not to act on that.” to vote”. candidate or party.”
MEXICAN PRESIDENT THREATS TO INTERMEDIATE US ELECTIONS WITH ‘INFORMATION CAMPAIGN’ AGAINST REPUBLICANS
The resolution calls on Lopez Obrador to retract his statements, commit to not interfering in U.S. elections and “take action to ensure that no department or agency acting on behalf of the Mexican government takes action to interfere with elections in disrupting the United States.”
Domestically, it calls on the State Department to monitor any Mexican attempts to interfere in the US election, and calls on President Biden to denounce the remarks and also use the government’s tools. use to protect against any interference.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, it called for an immediate vote on the resolution and a unanimous response from Congress to the comments by supporting the resolution.
“Instead of fighting the Mexican drug cartels that are killing Mexicans and Americans, President AMLO is fighting people like me who really want to stop these murderous thugs. AMLO and its cronies have personally attacked me, Americans blamed for being killed by fentanyl, and vowed to interfere in US elections to block legislation that would target his cartel donors,” Crenshaw said.

“Attempts to intimidate American voters or interfere with our democratic process will not be tolerated. Republican leadership should immediately take this important resolution to a vote in the House. Every member of Congress should support this resolution to show a united front against AMLO’s reckless rhetoric and its failure to prevent cartels in his country from mass murdering Americans with fentanyl,” he said.
Lopez Obrador’s threat is just one of the very inflammatory comments he has made about fentanyl. He has falsely claimed that fentanyl is not produced in Mexico, attributing the crisis to a “lack of hugs” in the US rather than cartels in his country.

He also wrote a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping asking him for help in the crisis, while at the same time targeting US lawmakers.
“They are unfairly blaming us for problems largely related to their loss of value, their welfare crisis,” she wrote. “These positions are in themselves disrespectful and a threat to our sovereignty, and moreover they are based on an absurd, manipulative, propagandistic and demagogic attitude.”
