‘Curtain of fireplace’: Icelandic volcano forces evacuation

A volcano in southwestern Iceland has erupted, capturing red-hot lava 50 meters into the air.

It’s the fifth eruption since December on the Reykjanes Peninsula, close to the capital Reykjavik.

The Blue Lagoon spa, one of many nation’s hottest vacationer resorts, was evacuated as a precaution.

Rikke Pedersen of the College of Iceland’s Nordic Volcanology Heart described the lava as a curtain of fireplace that was about 2.5 kilometers lengthy.

The nation’s Met Workplace mentioned the hole seems to be “rising”. The eruption occurred round 12:00 native time (11:00 BST).
